Good news! Money for Seniors to help pay Medicare and prescription costs

http://www.thecommunityfund.com/uploadedImages/smcf/News_and_Press/news_pics/Senior Citizen.jpgDuring this turbulent economic time, our senior citizens have been severely impacted. Many have watched their retirement income diminish before their eyes, while their fixed costs have remained the same.

For seniors living in Marion, Polk, Tillamook, Yamhill and Clatsop counties, there is a ray of sunshine on the horizon. Northwest Senior and Disability Services received a grant to help low-income seniors and disabled adults offset some of their health care costs. The funding focuses on providing help for:

  • Medicare premiums
  • deductibles
  • prescriptions
  • co-pays.

There are income and asset restrictions, but the funding allows eligible recipients to access the Qualified Medicare Beneficiaries Program (QMB). Persons must be receiving Medicare Part A as well as meeting the other income limits and asset guidelines.

As a Tribe, we honor and value our elders. February is National Senior Independence month. If you know a senior or disabled adult who is struggling to maintain their independence and may be eligible for this program, have them call Beth Jackson at 503/304-3653 for more information.

Let’s all do our part to help our elders enjoy health and the retirement lifestyle that they deserve. For a brochure on Medicaid access and services, click this link: http://www.nwsds.org/Medicaid%20Jan08.pdf

Bravo!! As a Spirit Mountain grant recipient, we closely follow the 'Community Fund' for info and relevant topics. This is one! We will be sending out our monthly newsletter (March) and will include this article and link.

Thank you for your focus and compassion to one of Oregon's most precious resource...our elders.
