Challenge Grant
Challenge Grant Policy:
It is the policy of the SMCF to issue Challenge Grants to organizations who’s grant application reveal one or more of the following characteristics;
- Have been unsuccessful at attracting other financial partners.
- Have not clearly demonstrated their efforts in obtaining additional financial support from individuals, corporate sponsors, or other philanthropic entities.
- Have not clearly demonstrated the level of community support.
- SMCF perceives a potential risk without additional funding.
A SMCF Challenge Grant will afford the prospective grantee an opportunity to obtain additional funding to support their project during the following twelve month period commencing on the trustee decision date of the challenge grant. At any time during this twelve month period, if the organization can provide documentation that ninety percent (90%) of the project budget has been satisfied, SMCF will release the full challenge grant amount. Due to special circumstances SMCF’s Director may approve a time extension request. If significant changes to either the budget or project have occurred, the director will forward the request to the Board.
